37 minutes at bedtime
Yes, it is resolve that takes one till the finish line. Habitual meditations have a tendency to set complacency in. To recognise the complacency is half the battle. To read relevant parts written or spoken by spiritual teachers helps one recognise any complacency that may have set into your rituals. That feeling of completion at the end of a certain mental exercise is not a sign of growth. It is a sign of stagnation.
For this session, a gentle and firm resolve before beginning, help me reach the 37 minute marked end. That prematured sense of completion was not given any attention. And that’s what made me happy. It is not as big a deal as I am making it out to be.
How difficult can it be to watch a breath that has paused its activity for long. How effortless it is to remain calmly observant. Once you know how to become quiet, there really is not much required to remain like that. It seemed Herculean at first, but now it is about simply facing the doubts. A few months back it seemed like an uphill task to remain quiet. Now it comes with relative ease.
It is true, just looking at your fears calmly is enough. One doesn’t have to deal with the doubts in a hands on manner. Just looking at it in an unperturbed manner, does the trick.
