In my book, 'The Discovers', one of the themes was the great obstacle to progress is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge. And I think that the same thing is true in the present work I'm writing on the creators, on the arts. I think the hallmark of a work of art is that we can never discover in advance of what it holds. There's mystery in the works of creation and discovery. And I think that to grasp that mystery, to be prepared for the unexpected, is the task of those of us who are helping others learn about the world. 進步的主要障礙不是無知，而是自以為知的「知識幻覺」──這是我在《發現者》那本書中所討論的主題之一。我目前正在撰寫一本關於藝術創作者的書，而我相信藝術創作也面臨了同樣的障礙。我認為藝術作品的主要特徵在於我們無法事先（在作品完成之前）知道它的內容。創作和發現的結果帶有神秘。我因此相信：對教師而言，把握住這個神秘，準備好接受我們意料之外的發現，將是我們的主要工作。
