I recently got a few preowned furby booms and they reek of cigarette smoke. How do I go about cleaning the fur? And is it possible to take off the fur?

Ugh, cigarette smell is the worst. I’ve had decent results in the past by wrapping each Furby in a dryer sheet and leaving them in an airtight-ish box for a few days, then washing them. I haven’t figured out how to get the fur off of a Boom or 2012 intact, so I just settle for thoroughly surface-washing them.

The dryer sheets will smell pretty strongly, and your Furbies likely will too, but the detergent smell should dissipate after a few days out of the box!

Furby Crystal anon again! While looking for how to replace the motor on my Boom, I found this guide on how to partially skin a 2012 Furby to replace its motor & thought other people might find it useful on ifixit under /Guide/Hasbro+furby+2012+DC+Motor+Replacement/72357

Not specifically tech related, but the rubber on the ears of my 2012 is sticky- Almost 100% certainly due to the rubber itself deteriorating. Surface washing and gentle scrubbing don't do much to it. I was just wondering on if you had any thoughts on the best course of action, since the rubber isn't going to just re-stabilise!

Yeah, mine are all a little sticky too. Idk if it’s the plastic degrading or if they’re just.... like that. I don’t think they’re quite old enough to have serious plastic degrading problems, but who knows!

I just wipe the ears down every so often to get the dust off, I’m not sure there’s much else to be done.
