Over the past god knows how many years I had kind of fallen out of love with reading for fun. When I was younger I would read and read and finish entire books in one day and then I started college which then turn into university and life got in the way of reading.
Don’t get me wrong, during these years I did read, but rarely for fun. I was mostly reading text books, course books and I started relating books with hard work.
However in Summer last year after moving into my very own first home and finding myself having more time on my hands I decided to buy a book for the first time in years. Once I started reading again that was it I was hooked! I started following tons of booktube vloggers on YouTube (I wish I was brave enough to do this) and rediscovered everything I remembered about reading.
This year I have decided to continue my reading for pleasure but have also decided to broaden my horizons when it comes to reading. Over the past couple of months I have found what I enjoy reading and I have tended to stick inside my little bubble of genres. This year however I am much more keen to read and expand my mind.
My reading goals for this year are to try and read at least one book a month that is written by an ethnic minority writer (I have come to realise that still in this day and age there still seems to be much less books published by minority’s which blows my mind). I would also love to read further into feminism and gender equality in general as this is something I am extremely passionate about. Lastly I aim to try and read some more non-fiction this year, when I’m buying new books this is never something I reach for but this year I have seen so many great reviews about non-fiction on YouTube that it has completely inspired me!
I supposed although I have these reading goals for myself the most important thing is that I continue enjoying what I read as there is nothing better than sitting and enjoying a good book!
