This pumpkin got chewed as a baby and I knew that’s where it would eventually start to rot from. I was curious what the inside would look like and if it would only be rotten in that one spot. All the guts were gross too, but the rest of the outer rind was still solid and looked good from the outside. After a thorough scraping out it made a fine jack o’lantern to keep me company while I finished my gardening.

Conclusion: you can still carve a rotting pumpkin if you do it outside
