This isn’t the first time I’ve ever kept a journal, but it’s the first time I’ve ever completed one! I’m super proud of myself 😊

Last week my journal finally arrived! I did a recap of January and set up the pages for February. ✨ Since November I have been writing much more than usual. So I ordered the Moleskine Classic Expanded Notebook, with a dotted grid. I used to buy only Moleskine sketchbooks, but last year I have also fallen In love with their products for writing. 

I have tried bullet journaling before and I felt tempted to set one up for this year... but judging from my past experiences it will either mutate into a planner or a journal. Therefore I decided that it'll be my creative writing journal. 

For planning and todo's, I have been using Notion. Additionally to that, the calendar on my mac book, there I keep track of events and meetings.

WINTER STUDYING CHALLENGE

15th December - What is the coolest gift you ever gave someone?

Mmmm. I’m not sure... maybe an ugly sweater (that was really pretty on its own way) and a long letter (I do write really deep letters)

16th December - What is your favourite Christmas movie?

How the grinch stole Christmas (2000)

17th December - What is your favourite Christmas song/carol? 

Greensleeves or Oh holy night

18th December - What is a Christmas song that makes you cringe?

I can’t think of any song at the moment... but if someone plays one over and over I end up hating it.

19th December - What is your favourite holiday food?

Romeritos!

Frog Skin Journal for 2021

Frog skin is very amazing. Firstly there is no need to pare it down because it is thin and very strong. Secondly, it is very easy to use. It adheres very nicely to boards and does not warp too much when adhesive is applied. 

The journal is bound using the disappearing spine Bradel binding. The boards are covered in Tyvek® that was decorated using the flottage method. The 二O二一 onlays means 2021 in Chinese. I decided to use the flesh side for the back boards to show the beautiful veins of the skin. And on the front boards I used the outer side of the skin to contrast the back boards. I love how the frog skin has odd bits of folds and I suspect the little fold on the spine of the book might be from the knee of the frog! The endpapers are hand painted using acrylic paints and are made to look like frog eggs. The endbands are made using the frog skin parchment with a sewn gold cord for accent. 

Looking forward to filling this year’s journal with loads of drawings, writings, records, research and experiments.

The future log and my school timetable are a must. This year, I also added the dates of the main exams I have to take so I can study ahead.

WINTER STUDYING CHALLENGE

20th December - What is your least favourite holiday food?

I don’t have any least favorite... but if I eat something too much I end up despising it.

21st December - What was the most memorable holiday celebration you had at school?

There was this one time when we did a gift trade, broke piñatas and took a lot of pictures.

I still remember the race for the candies, the warm hugs and how good those pictures turned out... they’re still in my laptop!

22nd December - Finish this thought, “It wouldn’t be Christmas without _____.”

Christmas lights and ugly sweaters!

23rd December - If you could design your own ugly Christmas sweater, what would it look like?

Mmmmm. There would be a violin in the middle, a lot of lights around it and some skulls (as anatomical accurately as possible) in the sleeves.

24th December - What is your Christmas wish?

I want to be able to enjoy life as much as possible.

To be able to see everyday as something magical. I want to feel inspired to do things.

I want to be able to romanticize my life... no matter how hard things get. I want to be able to see the beautiful side... I want to stop feeling overwhelmed and start feeling inspired, energized and happy.

The goal for this year is to get the patio shaped up! First thing to do (besides clean off the bricks XD) was to put in the Herb Garden! 💖

I should have taken a before, but it was ALL daylillies. Behind the fence I scavanged from what was a garden border is even MORE daylillies - and last year they all came up orange. I thought we could spare a few...

We've got Lavender growing in, and rows of Chives, Parsley, and Basil. (Not pictured are two window boxes, one with Oregano and one with Mint). I think I have just enough space for one more Lavender, and then I'll finish the mulch and put in a new fence border!

I’m wondering if I should keep this nightly or just when I feel like writing. Sort of feels like a chore when I have to do it in order to feel accomplished but equally I’ve been too tired to write too much. Will have to reevaluate in February.
