Tumblrites, if you're comfortable, i want to hear in the tags or comments about what accessibility features you use to navigate this site (and others) and for you to share your experience. Do you use text-to-speech, a screenreader, AAC, speech-to-text, eye tracking, one of the many other things? I'm curious!!
Anyone else love writing alt text? I find it so enjoyable and i'm not sure why.
So like. Just to be clear there's a fandom that uses the #tts tag and a fandom that uses the #text-to-speech/#text to speech tags. Yeah? Got it? So like uh. Where do the people who use the accessibility feature go?
Idk i'm not trying to change the status quo, i bet it's this way because there aren't many tts users, i'm just a bit confused :p I've just gotta find a way to tag my own tts posts that don't interfere with others from these fandoms ((as a person in fandom i get it)), for now they're going under #tts :L
Today i'm a Siorc who's really frustrated with the lack of like. Easy accessibility for AAC n stuffs. Like i've noticed myself relying on Daniel (my TTS) a lot more often, i know it's definitely possible i'll experience another verbal shutdown at some point, like for me i feel it's less a question of if and more of a question of when. I wanna be prepared but i'm struggling to find anything that allows all this to work for me, and anything that works or seems fantastic, either costs money or doesn't work properly on my device. It's so frustratinggg agh.
The more i dive into this sorta stuff and trying to get myself accommodated the more i find how little accommodation exists in the world. Like firsthand. And i knew this before because i surround myself with disabled people and because nobody's accommodated me in all my years of schooling, and getting accommodations in college changed my life, but it just keeps getting more frustrating. Why should my ability to read at any given time be conditional? Why can't i use my device's built-in TTS on this browser or website? Like please.
