Saw someone mention the quote, "Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire" in a comment section like a second ago and it's genuinely making me think. So much. Because like i think about language preservation and cultural preservation for most of my day. And recently i've been considering that my way of viewing culture is flawed, that it does not need to be the entire revival of old ways but new spins on those old ways to fit with the new culture. I used to look at the ways culture exists and i would feel so horrible about how parts have been replaced by colonisation. But recently with how much i've been watching and looking into stuff related to the Indigenous ppl of Turtle Island i've learned that culture is really what you make it. In my own culture, our true traditional hat is the labbadeh, but the tarboush (fez) is still important despite it being an Ottoman import and younger.

Idk, i ramble. But i have many thoughts :]
