"Twain is funny and important today, because his comedy is a hilarious celebration of our fears, our ineptitude and the glorious mess of being human. When we celebrate Twain, truly see him for who he was, we acknowledge our commonality and we move just a little closer together."
Excerpt from Conan O'Brien's Mark Twain Prize Acceptance Speech
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert: Conan O'Brien
September 29, 2025
kupamy: It was my Super Bowl Sunday. Conan O'Brien was in Newark this past weekend. All the nights I've spent watching this guy — from my little black-and-white bedroom TV 20 years ago to his interviews on YouTube today. What a joy to see him have a Conaissance in film, TV and podcasting. And what a privilege to see him share all the times he thought he wouldn't get another chance in comedy (he would, more than few times), throw a chair pillow, be rankled by Stephen Colbert's composed line of biographical questioning ("This is like a trial deposition") and proceed to break the format, like he always does. Conan also reaffirmed his support for Colbert, given the Montclair resident's own impending exit from late-night TV. “The world is your fucking oyster,” Conan told Colbert. “It’s gonna be amazing.”
