At the end of the film, at Edmund's grave, detective Corvin confronts Carol, saying that her father (Edmund) would have mentioned to her that Carol's husband, Frank, was with him when Julia, Carol's lesbian lover, called Carol's father. Dectective Corvin asserts Carol's guilt as she was with Julia on the day the phone call was made. After Julia threatened to expose their lesbian affair, Carol killed her that night and fabricated her nightmares to Dr. Kerr in a bid to plead temporary insanity. Carol was fearful that the hippies would identify her, though she was unaware that they were too high on LSD to make their testimony credible. Dectective Corvin ultimately leads Carol to a waiting police car.

Mountain Learning
I look up at a mountain. The last time I had to climb one, I barely made it up Through dumb luck and brute force. It was harder than it had to be, And I learned very little in the process. It was a series of blind leaps of faith When it could have been a safe ascent if I'd properly prepared.
To prepare to climb a mountain is intimidating. To map out every step, To know how to go from one to the next, Is hard. It is harder than it should be, When you do not even know where to start, Or if the steps you take are correct.
