New Year's Resolution Master Post

I should probably do my NaClYoHo wrap-up first, but meh.

My 21 for 2021 list was also kind of a dud. I review that as well.

So this year, I'm just going to focus on one room of the house each month that I can improve in small ways, NaClYoHo style.

There are three areas that I need to work on with Husband:

Basement

Carpet

Couch

Put stuff back

Desks?

Office chairs

Decorate

Bathroom

Replace towel rack

fix or replace toilet paper holder

New linens? -Shower curtain -Bath mat -Towels?

Bag for bath toys

Front of house:

Paint

Wall sconce

Door bell

Camera?

And now, the monthly projects that I can do myself:

January: Our bedroom

Get the desk and computer out

Go through hanger clothes and get rid of what doesn't fit

Put away summer stuff and pull out winter stuff (hopefully will happen in December)

Bag up clothes to be donated

Replace the nightstands

Organize my nightstand (husband can do his own)

Vacuum under bed

Wash all blankets and pillows

Hang new art

Put all shoes in organizer

February: 5yo's room

Hang his art

Organize plushies

Wash all blankets and pillows

Box up and store outgrown clothes

Organize his dresser and closet

Organize his books

Fix ripped or battered books

Shop for new bookshelf

Consider getting cork board for awards certificates etc

Hang art in 1yo's room (that's the main thing his room needs, so I'm lumping it in)

March: living room

Go through recipe printouts. Copy them into my cookbook, try them, or throw them out.

Organize bookshelves

Get rid of dead plants

Repot live plants

Start seeds

Shop for shot glass case for husband (if found, save for his birthday)

Go through toy box for things 1yo has outgrown

April: Dining room

Organize coupon drawer (dividers, etc)

Organize craft cabinet

Go through "baby stuff" drawer; donate things like bibs we don't use anymore

Go through tray of 5yo's art; everything should be filed, displayed, or recycled

Generally tidy up the china hutch

Get rid of dead plants

Repot live plants

buy new tablecloth

Go through drawer of linens

Buy pillow forms for throw pillow shams

May: Kitchen and powder room

Contact paper fridge

put magnets back

fix broken magnets

Clean whiteboard; figure out new system for it

Throw out dead plants

repot live plants

consider buying new curtains

Buy new curtains for powder room

Consider replacing mirror

June: Take a month off. Evaluate progress. Make new lists to repeat in July-December.

Some 2020 accomplishments (to remind future me): • 1️⃣ I have always wanted to shave my head, so when I finally figured out in April we weren’t going back to school in person for the rest of the school year, I shaved my hair down to about 1 cm. (I would have gone down to the skin, but my mom was so mad already… 😆) This is how much it has grown back. • 2️⃣ I started Duolingo for Spanish in April, and I have practiced 249 days in a row. • 3️⃣ I finished the One Year Chronological Bible Plan. • 4️⃣ I finished writing a sentence (or more 😆) about my day for 5 years in this journal. • 5️⃣ My favorite miracle and answer to prayer was my cousin beating COVID-19 after 2 months in a coma and 1 month of physical therapy. (This isn’t my accomplishment per se…but it was an accomplishment to hold on to hope and faith when everything seems dark…and I know I’ll need that reminder again in the future.) #thankYouJesus • 6️⃣ We’ve done #distancelearning since March…and we’re surviving! A few kids had some kind words to say in my survey, too, which was nice to read. • 7️⃣ This #digitalescaperoom as a last day activity was the best one I ever made. It ended with the kids telling me I was awesome in order to avoid getting homework over winter break. 😂 • 8️⃣ I did my first ever 1000-piece #puzzle. It took me 3 days. • 9️⃣ I cleaned out my drawers and closet for the first time in…ever? I got rid of 8 trash bags of clothes and shoes. • 🔟 I started a bullet journal, and I made a list of my #21for2021. (It sounded easier than a list of #40before40… 😆) • I think this year has had less stress and more rest for me, simply because I think I had way fewer commitments, responsibilities, and drive times 😆. Also, I got to hang out with my family more. I’m not sure what 2021 will bring, but I hope I will keep the right balance. • No matter what, though—good or bad, mountain or valley, comfort or struggle—my peace is with God, and my hope is in Christ alone. 🎵 Because He lives, I can face tomorrow… 🎶 and 🎵 with every breath that I am able, I will sing of the goodness of God. 🎶 • I will NOT accomplish staying up until midnight, so I’ll say it now: #happynewyear, all! ❤️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CJfhLvrsZXa/?igshid=f63ce4fmxtw5

21 for 2021: January OP

So it looks like I can do sublists on desktop but not on mobile. So if my lists looks waaaay longer than 21 items, just trust me.

Checking in on my list, I got a chunk of the newborn photos dealt with. I just need to figure out where to hang them; ultimately I want a wall of family portraits, but I think that’ll be a problem for 2022 me.

5mo is looking like he’s going to self-wean sooner than expected. I’m beating myself up about it, but at least I’ll be able to stop clothes shopping sooner.

For the first two days of the new year, I’ve got a string of two whole days each of reading and taking my vitamin. I also sent one text. I hope to check in here roughly weekly, but that’s not really a goal in itself. Unless...

21 for 2021: December Prep

So I guess I’ll do one masterpost for each month?

The first thing I need to do is come up with my 21 goals...

Keep track of my caloric drinks. I do well limiting myself to no more than 15 drinks with 100+ calories each per week. That works out to one soda in the afternoon and one beer in the evening, with an extra beer on Saturdays. Ideally I’d even stay below this, but by budgeting my beverages, I find I’m more mindful, and I drink more water and tea. I got lax because I wasn’t drinking while pregnant, and I was giving myself some slack post pregnancy. It’s time to be mindful again.

Finish the book I’m reading about the Roosevelts, and clear the graphic novels off my to-read shelf.

I’m actually glad that happened because I managed to do some major catching up in the second half of 2021. For the first time in a long while, I was able to accomplish more than what I had hoped to do at the start of the year. (Yay for me!) 21 for 2021: August OP

I haven’t checked in on this since February, which should give you a pretty good TL;DR on how I’m doing.

I’m down to 12 caloric beverages a week. Some weeks I still have carryover, but on a much smaller basis. I’ll probably stick with 12 through September.

Reading has been way too lax, although I try to get in at least a chapter or two a week. I should definitely get back to my graphic novels, if nothing else.

Newborn pictures aren’t going on the wall until I can get some new family portraits taken and set up a proper display wall for that. We’ll call that a 2022 project. But the pics are framed and displayed nicely on a bookshelf, so I’m calling that done.

I didn’t think there were going to be official class pictures this year, because COVID, so used a thing on the Shutterfly App that let you put a “School pic” background on a nice pic of your kid. But then the school did official pictures in June. So I need to order those before I can do any more steps.

Shopping has gone well since things are starting to re-open. Not as good as I’d hoped (no tailored jeans, not the swimsuit I wanted), but still very good.

Haven’t done the days out with 5yo yet; by the time things were sufficiently open, we were too busy. I want to start in September once we have a proper routine.

I think the front door is going to end up being a 2022 project. We kind of upped our ambition: New screen door, maybe a security cam, new mailbox, nice numbers, in addition to the light and doorbell.

Success on the perennials! We’ll see how they do next year, but there’s way more purple coneflowers than I expect (which may be from last year), a couple phlox that haven’t bloomed yet, and one small but cheerful bee balm. I planted some other stuff, too, but no real success stories atm.

We got 1yo baptized in May. It was pulling teeth to get it set up, but it’s done!

Haven’t kept track of the texting, but I do text a bit more than I did last year, I think.

Pretty good, though not perfect, on vitamins.

Composting is mixed because the center is only open 12-2 Saturday afternoons, and so more often than not we’re not around. But other than one stretch where it got fruit flies (yuck) I’m doing all right.

No knitting at all. Haven’t touched the photo book. No blogging of any kind. Virtually no creative writing. Shit the bed on LetterMo.

So I think my focus for the next couple weeks will be reading and the photo book.
