Kazetsuyo Episode 12: Summer Prank A new thought this watch, but it only just occurred to me why Shindo and Yuki took much longer than Musa and the twins to hit their qualifying times. I mean, one would think that these two should possess the same level of athleticism to at least be on par with the twins and Musa, shouldn’t they? So what took them this long to finally catch up?

It’s pretty obvious to me now, that Shindo and Yuki’s core strengths do not lie in their speeds, but in their ability to navigate steep inclines. They were the assigned runners for Sections 5 and 6 after all; the steepest mountain route in the entire course. For the qualifiers, however, everyone's running on FLAT TERRAIN, so it puts Shindo and Yuki at a natural disadvantage over the other sprinters (most likely the type that Musa and the twins are). They were unable to leverage on their strengths to run at their full potential! Hence why it took a little bit of thinking on Yuki’s part to help the both of them finally overcome this hurdle. 

It’s one of those “oh, is that why” moments that’s something to think about.

Machiko Yamada about Shoma Uno - 2021

“ Machiko Yamada revealed on local TV that she sees Shoma almost daily at Chukyo University rink where she coaches her current students and attested that Shoma is in top notch condition and he will surely make the Olympic team.

 Coach Yamada also said she often talks to Shoma. Like when he tries to stop practice after falling on a jump, she calls in him to continue. The he would do one more jump because “Yamada sensei told me so.” Yamada said “I tell Shoma to just think of me as an aunty next door.”
