You don’t have to be into politics to learn about the issues affecting your community. Did you know that in 2008, Baltimore discovered that the cost of providing police and fire services to a block increased by $1,472 annually for each vacant house? With more than 16,000 vacant houses in the city of Baltimore, the costs of these eyesores aren’t the only way the city suffers because of them. They also lead to health issues in lower-income neighborhoods.

You don’t have to be into politics to learn about the issues affecting your community. It’s not a secret that Baltimore is riddled with food deserts, but not many people know that the increasingly popular solution to this is Urban farming. Urban farming programs across the city help people in food deserts learn to grow their own food and give them access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Visit baltimorecity.gov to find a farm near you.
