American DJ and electro musician Steve Aoki may not be a radio regular Down Under but he's a household name — and he had the fans to prove it at the ARIA Awards in Sydney on Wednesday! Making his way down the sodden red carpet, he stopped with fellow musicians and waiting media, and we stole a few minutes to ask him some questions. Keep reading for Steve's words on Australians, his career and . . . Louis Tomlinson (kinda).
POPSUGAR Australia: How long since you were in Australia?
Steve Aoki: God, that's a good question. Since 2006 . . . It's 10 years! I love it here. I love the people. I love everything about Australia. Every opportunity I get, I'll come — I even cancelled a gig to come down.
PS: Did you? What are you working on here?
SA: I have a show in Wollongong for MTV Beats & Eats and I've got a lot of new music to play! I've got my next album, Neon Future III, plus the remix I did for My Chemical Romance's, "Welcome to the Black Parade."
PS: And are you a fan of any Australian artists in particular?
SA: Israeli artists?
PS: Hahaha, Australian artists! Sorry, I'm talking too fast.
SA: [Laughs] Australian artists! I have to say . . . I love Flume. Flume is my all-time favourite artist down here.
PS: We love following your Instagram — your life seems pretty cool. You flew a private jet to Las Vegas with Louis Tomlinson the other day! Do you ever pinch yourself?
SA: I'm pinching myself right now! Is this real?
PS: I know you had a Sliding Doors type of moment back in the day, when you had a choice between pursuing your PhD in Sociology and Women's Studies or making music. Obviously you went for music . . . Do you ever think how different your life would have been if you went the other way?
SA: If I did that I'd probably be sitting near a lamp, writing research papers, trying to teach a class or something [laughs]. I love music. With music I can still voice my opinions and express myself — just through music, you know? I use music as a platform to influence other people.
PS: And are you working with Louis on some music?
SA: I can't tell you about that! [Editor's note: Rightly or wrongly, we're taking that as a yes!]

1. I made a bloody glorious omelette for my breakfast. So tasty! 2. I spent the day helping my mum do some moving of house stuff, we got one car load to the storage unit. 3. Caught up on Walking Dead. AND had calzone. CALZONE IS MY FAVOURITE!
Oggi è IL giorno Felice !
Il mio pensiero di oggi finisce qui.
