I think this screenshot sums up Dorohedoro pretty well.
And I think this specific moment genuinely made me laugh harder than any other anime before ever has, so yeah episode 7 was great.

hallo
Eizouken episode 8 was absolutely fucking god-tier! I’m so continuously amazed at this show’s overwhelming ability to make literally everything the most fun it possibly can be, which is especially noteworthy in this episode where the show’s usual super-non-literal visuals are basically never used - the only time there’s even any sort of shot that’s “imaginary” in any way like the sketchbook scenes in prior episodes or the laserbeams and shields of the hot spring or something, is the noire lighting for Kanamori’s chat with the AC club (literally one of the funniest things I’ve ever fucking seen by the way) and then everything else happens exactly as presented, it’s so great. And all the fuckin random clubs, accessibility club going up stairs in a fucking little tank-tread wheelchair is so sick, and by the way, I really like how Mizusaki’s parents were done here. Because it’s a case of everyone other than them taking what they said too seriously for the entire show - they wanted her to be an actress so she hid the anime stuff and the security tried really hard to stop her from doing that stuff without the parents even knowing, it’s like Mizusaki and the guards both heard “no anime” and both took it as seriously as possible, where for the parents it’s like, not as big of a deal to them as it was interpreted as. I like it, we vibin’. Further proof that episode 6 being kinda eh was a negative fluke, and just, cements the show even deeper into that 10/10 territory for me.
I got a new 4☆ girl, don't know her fuckin name lol
Magia Record episode 8 was pretty good! As is MagiReco’s structure we’re at the beginning of a new little rumour arc, and it’s a fairly slow buildup this time. We’ve got the rumour of the Invisible Girl, a girl at school who was distant from everyone else to the point where she literally became invisible, and they do draw a parallel between that rumoured girl and Iroha herself who’s likewise fairly distant, so maybe Iroha’ll actually be lost and we’ll lose our protagonist for a little bit, which could be interesting since MagiReco’s been following Iroha a lot closer and with less cuts away from her than was the case with Madoka in the original anime.
And then there’s also a girl in this radio tower and you can hear her asking for help through your phone and that’s the other rumour we’re investigating, except actually Iroha hears a girl laughing instead. I don’t really know my Magia Record voices well but I think the laughing girl was Alina, which is hype if true, and speaking of not knowing voices Yachiyo was also talking to someone on the phone about Magius, and I’ve got no idea who so. We’ll see what this all amounts to I suppose.
Yachiyo actually sort of cuts off the call when Iroha comes in, evidently not wanting Iroha to hear about the conversation. Now honestly it’s pretty clear by this point that Yachiyo cares about Iroha, the way she comes to her rescue at the end with a genuine smile is proof enough, so I have to assume this withholding of information from Iroha is a case of Yachiyo wanting to avoid endangering Iroha to some degree, maybe out of genuine concern or maybe she doesn’t think Iroha can handle it. But I do know that at some point in the mobile game’s story Iroha like, takes charge of Mikazuki Villa, so maybe this is setup for that? Iroha standing up and showing her authority off, convincing Yachiyo to not keep secrets and everything’s fine and dandy? That’d be neat.
About that coming to the rescue thing, Iroha actually sees Tsukuyo going into the radio tower and follows her, eventually asking her questions about Magius and their motives and about saving Uwasas and stuff. It’s an interesting contrast between herself and Madoka - in that Madoka was very curious about what being a magical girl meant to individuals, and actually spent very little time questioning Kyubey or the system itself beyond “why are you doing this?”, whereas Magius fulfill that similarly vaguely antagonistic role that we’re still unsure about, but Iroha is very curious about that entire thing, she asks specific questions relating to the motivations behind the ‘antagonists’. And it complements their roles in the narrative - Madoka wants to know what being a magical girl means to people so she can find a reason to be a magical girl herself, and Iroha wants to know what Magius are on about with rumours and shit since she needs any help and clues she can get to find her imouto. I like it.
Also about that saving is that Tsukuyo doesn’t respond to any of Iroha’s questions or even really fight her, she just summons a witch, and the animation of Iroha dodging its attacks, moving around the setting, it’s clean as fucking hell dude! Looked so damn good, Christ. I’ll take Yachiyo’s 3D spears as the cost for having Iroha bounce around so fluidly, girl lookin’ fine as hell in motion.

Anyway yeah that was that episode. Again, slow, not super duper eventful, it’s one of those episodes that I imagine’ll be easier to appreciate on a rewatch since I won’t need to wait a week for the next episode to pop up as well.
Magia Rapport - Day 24
Feb 24, 2020: Who is your favourite spinoff character? How do you think they would interact with Iroha?
Joke’s on you, idiot! I’ve not read any of the spinoffs. Well I mean I guess MagiReco itself is a spinoff in which case my favourite character is probably, uh, Iroha so far maybe. Not really sure how she’d interact with herself tbh. But my favourite actual spinoff character not originating from MagiReco is honestly just Oriko, because I like her design more than like every other spinoff character. And I don’t know anything about her so I’m not sure how she’d interact with Iroha. Rip.
So that’s not strictly wrong but it’s definitely super misleading.
Anyway Koisuru Asteroid episode 7 was pretty nice, in a surprising twist of fate, Inose becoming the president, Mira the vice and Ao the treasurer, has all actually managed to mean stuff for their characters and the narrative, which isn’t really like a common occurrence in a cute girl show, and I’m happy with it here. Ao managing to persuade the grumpy kid that astronomy is sick as fuck is also a really nice and cute scene, between that and Mira giving that one kid a piggyback in episode 6 this show’s got a lot of nice interactions between our girls and various younger kids, it’s sweet.
Here’s a pretty hair-down Ao I screenshat just because.
22/7 episode 7 was, probably the best of these not-Miu-focused character episodes we’ve had so far. So it turns out the mysterious illness that hit every single girl in the last episode all at once was actually food poisoning, which is a really cheap way to make a cliffhanger happen since we never even saw them eat the food in question, but whatever. It’s an excuse to have Jun be the only one capable of doing idol activities, by filling in for every other girl, which was at least kinda cute, though since she gets basically no break inbetween any of this, hardly even a chance to eat in fact, I kinda thought it’d turn into something where like maybe Gouda is reprimanded for fucking dragging her around over his shoulder and working her to death but nah, she’s all “that was so fun!” and everything ends conflict free. Whatever, show’s oddly devoid of meaningful conflict in the present day for anyone that’s not Miu.
I specify in the present day though because this is 22/7 so woven throughout the episode are flashbacks to Jun’s tragic past, and god am I tired of saying that for every character, really hope we can get any sort of structure change. But we do get some narrative change though, since Jun’s conflict doesn’t relate to family for the first time ever, but rather friendship. More specifically, Jun had a weak respiratory tract and so found a lot of things about life boring, she was super cynical and never really had any friends. But in the hospital, she met this one girl named Yuu, the pair became friends, and obviously it wouldn’t be tragic unless Yuu died. So she does. But obviously we need to make it positive so after Jun bawls her eyes out from her one friend dying, saying God should’ve exchanged their lives even, the opposite of that request kinda happens and Jun’s lung problems go away, her basically commenting that it’s like Yuu’s life went to Jun. And then the cherry on top is that after overworking her like hell, Gouda’s all “where does she keep all that energy in her tiny little body?” and we the audience now know - her friend died or whatever.
Honestly I’m fine with this, I think a better job is done selling us on Jun’s bond with this friend than is done with like everyone else and their bonds with whatever family the episode’s on about, and not only is Yuu’s death just automatically a tougher thing because of that (even if it’s still predictable as hell) but the direction and voice acting on display for the scene where we walk into Yuu’s hospital room is pretty great, this episode as a whole is actually the best looking episode in quite a while, there’s just a lot of fairly solid animation and better artwork than usual in general. Just helped me dig the episode, really shoots Jun up the best girl list. And the other thing is that in having that sort of “Yuu’s life went to Jun” thing with Jun being capable of doing all this work today, there’s actually a somewhat meaningful and apparent connection between the past and present events we see on screen, which is really appreciated after the Reika episode.
One thing I am suddenly extremely curious about though is that, the past episodes have had characters go through conflict relating to their blood family, and so in an earlier episode post I predicted that the idea was for the Wall to look for girls with these family problems, bring them all together, and it’d be a found family narrative. But now, Jun’s gone and had a conflict completely unrelated to family, which completely breaks my prediction. So like, are they gonna do a found family thing with the Wall anyway? Because it wouldn’t work so well now, even just making Yuu Jun’s sister or cousin could’ve changed that. Though I do appreciate that a new type of relationship is being explored here, so honestly I wouldn’t want that. But now I’m just suddenly curious as to what the show does want to do. What will its thematic arc and conclusion be? Fuckin, god knows anymore.
Anyway I always take screenshots during 22/7 episodes so.
I hope that coat’s real animal fur because it’s really funny to me if it is.
Glasses and JoJo pose Jun is good too.
She just looked good here. Jun’s hair is among the more complex hairstyles in the show so it’s cool that it was drawn as well as it was as consistently as it was throughout this episode.
Weird when anime girls do that face.
Literally this looks good enough to be an actual anime girl bottled water ad, which is a genre of ad way larger than some people may realise. Slurp slurp.
These are good Juns.
Nice subs.
She like really ugly cries here, but that’s good, let her. But as you can see yeah she’s pretty fucking bummed out before the bit where her lungs turned out to be okay. It’s kind of this conflict of ideas where she’s only okay with Yuu dying because she herself now gets to live a better life, but I can understand her managing to frame that in her own mind as “Yuu giving up her life for me to lead a good life” and being okay with that, so again it’s cool.
“Photos is great life changing things” is completely accurate because awkward English sentences in Japan is just a thing. These photos are cute too, and I liked Yuu’s design enough even if looking at her and Jun it’s extremely obvious who the main character is. Also I just noticed the moustache pick in the bottom right and it’s very cute.
Anyway it’s been a fat minute since we’ve seen some Mius, and there were not a lot this episode which upset me, but I got some in.
This was like the first new frame in the episode with any Mius in it at all, so obviously I popped off.
I love her. I’m in love with her.
And that’s actually like literally every Miu in this episode proper. Cool, we get some in the ED though.
So Jun’s character episode ED doesn’t even have just her in it. Cool. Hate to say it by the way but her ED song was pretty lame, rip.
She is in her own ED though, alongside Yuu, this is a pretty shot.
And yeah that’s me done for screenshots. Our little cliffhanger is the Wall dropping a single order to hold a solo live show for 3000 people, and with the epiosde being called “Dreaming Robot” and I think Akane saying the title (hate to admit that Miu and Sakura are the only girls whose voices I can place with any degree of confidence) I’m pretty sure it’s the Akane episode next.
One other thing I’m curious about is, if next episode’s Akane episode, episode 9 is then probably Ayaka episode, and so episodes 10, 11 and 12, there are actually a couple of possibilities. Because from the start Nicole’s been framed a lot differently from the other girls, and her relationship with Miu’s been built up differently as well, so I wanna assume that’ll take center stage for the last 3 episodes. But like, will it just be episode 10 is just a Nicole episode? Or will it be like episode 10 and 11 are a Nicole and Miu episode? Show opened on 3 eps for Miu so maybe it’ll close on 3 for Nicole? Maybe Nicole won’t even get anything like what everyone else has had and they’ll integrate her character stuff with the plot in a way that actually matters? Honestly I’m not really sure, only way to find out is to wait and see, and hope that it’s good.
