Beef Dip

It's a messy sandwich. Melted cheese and horseradish sauce and chopped up beef Drip out of bread into the gravy. I dip it and try to keep my fingers clean But there is no reality where I do not reach for a napkin.

It's worth it, To consume it whole, Unable and unwilling to pace myself. To reach sincerely for that which brings us joy And hold on with wonder, Even if it gets us dirty. Do not tell me you have seen a greater smile Than on a toddler who is fascinated with mess. Which of life's treasures is improved through temperance? Passion is rarely a detriment.
