Iiiiii saw the 25th Anniversary Tour in Philly today!
It's late and I have an early start tomorrow, so some quick observations before I head to bed:
Dude wow you people were not kidding when you said Andrew Varela is a brilliant Javert. He knocked it out of the park with Stars, I just. That was fantastic and he is fantastic and I'm pretty sure he's like my number two Javert now and just. /chinhands, sighs, stares into distance
I'm not super sold on some of the orchestration and blocking changes? I have a small list in my head but the first two which come to mind are 1. the dissonance during Javert's Suicide, which was just kind of overkill, and 2. the choice to focus on Grantaire during Gavroche's death? I know it's kind of difficult to actually show Gavroche's death given they've removed the turntable, but I don't feel like that moment was earned, especially since Grantaire got really into it and let out a Big No that seemed...more melodramatic than anything else.
finally COMBEFERRE okay during like 90% of Red and Black Combeferre was just loading guns and checking the sights on rifles and completely ignoring Marius and Grantaire, and all I could think about was Marguerite's Combeferre and I could not stop grinning.
