I think when viewing the two works side by side you can see the almost identical concept, yes both numbers have very different meanings and can be interpreted differently. They are displayed in extremely different ways but the idea of using numbers as a way to portray fact in an artistic manner is something that I need to look into further.

Christian Boltanski

After Ryan posted on Facebook about Boltanski’s work I decided to look a little bit further into his practice particularly his piece entitled Chance 9th January - 23rd March 2014. Boltanski’s work is very much in touch with humans, its about memory and memory loss, death, birth and life. He explores the themes of how just being a live is supposedly down to chance, questioning the very odds that you and I exist. Although my work does not challenge these specific areas it does question morality and leave the viewer in a state or moral insecurity. However Boltanski’s work is an impressive structure extremely architecturally designed, there is a constant physical dialogue between the viewer and the work, whereas my work so far has been strictly 2D, maybe in the future I will do a three dimensional piece where the viewer can interact with the work however due to the space for this exhibition that is not practical at the moment.

The link that Ryan quite rightly made was between the figures the large numbers that were so prominent in both our works. Ryan suggested that I look into the possibility of having a digital counter for my work and I think that is something I will definitely do.
