After my serum test, gemuerr was commenting on so called "one button hits". It refers to the practice of using a single, complex preset from a synth like Serum to make an entire hit edm/dubstep song.
This short song with a single drop is build on this joke to strengthen its point. And to be honest: it was really fun to make.
I realized that in the past I kinda forced myself too much to avoid clichés. But then, after reading about creative strategies for music creation, it was crystal clear to me that clichés are a great source of inspiration and especially fun to work with.
Here I used a pretty common chord progression (refered to as pachebel progession) as a starting point in E major and built on that. You have probably heard that progression before numerous times. But that's okay, it's merely a foundation for me to practice writing/constructing melodies.
I recently finished the Masterclass by Joel Zimmerman and I created a lot of sound experiments along the way. This one is the beginning of something I intend to finish later. It sounds very Deadmau5y but there are ideas in the project file which evolve into its own thing.
Also it was the last sketch of 2016 I did. Hence the name
Something very different. Played around with more complex progression and remembered that I had Native Instrument's Kontakt somewhere and used its orchestral sounds.
However this was neither done in 30 minutes, not in the morning. Took about 1hour of which ~15-20 minutes were spent getting my orchestral sample library up and running and then fumbling around with it. If everything had been in place, it could've been done in 30minutes… soooo. I consider this a 30minute morning loop. Although it's 01:45 here now - but it's morning someplace else.
No automation, no mixing, no sound design.
Not too happy with the outcome - progression/harmony-wise. But still quite happy. I tried a new workflow which I will definitely use again.
