MONSTER TRUCK 3:16
03:16.
Happy 3:16 day for all those who celebrate.
Happy 3:16 day
Stone Cold X Undertaker 🍻🖤
I know it's been a while since you've written anything for DC so this may not mean much but I just wanted to let you know that I love love love the way you wrote Dick and Damian in 3:16. It's so good. I've been doing a re-read of it every month since July and I keep finding more and more things to love about it. The repeated elements (stars on the ceilings, bars on the windows, Battleship, Damian's short-term memory, closed fists, internal narratives, etc. etc.), the characterizations (Dick is understanding but not endlessly patient and does get upset when Damian cuts Tim's line! Damian knowing that his situation is better now, but also unwilling to disparage his mother! etc. etc.), all of it is so so so good.
There's also the specific point of how I really love how you depicted the way Dick views Damian and why he loves him; sometimes that love is treated more like a foregone conclusion, but you really make it clear why Dick keeps trying with Damian in the beginning and why he grows to love him (the "He’s seized with the sudden certainty that if only the world could see this—could see Damian pronouncing cheese names like historical dynasties—they would love the kid as much as he does" is perfect). There's also the way Damian grows as well; he's not "fixed"; he's in a better environment that makes it safe for him to care. He didn't delight in "evil" before, it just wasn't safe for him to be kind, and now that he has the opportunity to do so he chooses to be kind again (Rosalind!!!!).
There's a lot more I could say about how good 3:16 is, but I don't want to make this too long, so I'll leave it here. Thank you so so much for writing and sharing it; it truly is a Peak Dick and Damian fic.
everybody is being SO NICE THIS WEEK!! my god
thank you anon, this is really really sweet. my whole drive in writing that fic was showing the progression of their relationship from the beginning. there are some really lovely fics where their care for each other is already established, but i really wanted to explore the behind-the-scenes of how they got that way
and everything else you say here is very sweet too, i blush!! i ended up quite happy with how the recurring motifs turned out esp. because there was not originally very much planning involved
