It’s a wrap! Max has finished filming new film “30 Bullets”

FFF-funded political thriller “30 Bullets” was directed by Arash and Arman T. Riahi, who also wrote the screenplay. The lead roles are played by Max, Leonie Benesch and Hadi Khanjanpour.

The film tells the story of a taciturn public prosecutor (Max?) who is tasked with investigating a murder following a brutal assassination in Berlin. What initially appears to be an internal conflict between rival political factions quickly turns out to be state-organised terrorism. The investigator soon realises that parts of his own government and the secret services are involved in a large-scale cover-up.

Day 2: Faceless

The first few days in the orphanage were miserable for Levi.

Space Orphans, they were called. Abandoned and desperate children, mainly from Earth, brought to Mars for a new life. Thrown into a pecking order Levi knew nothing about, he endured beatings from faceless figures every night.

Until one day, he heard a voice inside him. It sounded like his mother.

Fight back, she said. You’re stronger than you think.

Fists clenched, and with a new-found power surging through him, he met the boys’ punches with his own.

After that, no one dared bother him.

Day 3: Painter

Levi was a good fighter. It just came naturally to him. Even the boys twice his age were afraid of his wrath. It was a power his young mind couldn’t quite comprehend, like being given a double-edged blade.

Then Kenny found him and put a real blade in his hand. It was like a painter finding a paintbrush.

Of course, there were bigger, flashier weapons to be used in Neo Tokyo, ones that made the young boy’s eyes go wide with interest. But Kenny’s lessons never changed.

“Why a knife?” Levi asked.

“Because no one sees it coming,” his uncle replied.

Day 5: Cold

Levi was fourteen when he earned his first tattoo.

But the yakuza did things differently. Tattoos weren’t given in a cold, sterile office, with lasers marking your body in a matter of minutes.

They were done by a tattoo master, the old fashioned way - hand-tapped, with traditional designs going back hundreds of years before people moved to Mars.

The master took one look at Levi and knew immediately what design the young man would receive.

“Take off your shirt,” he said. “I’ve decided.”

On Levi’s chest, over his heart, he carved a circle with a single character inside it:

Power.

Day 4: Quarter

Levi didn’t resist when Kenny showed up at the orphanage and took him away. He was happy to leave that awful place.

But the man barely says a word to Levi until they get into the car.

Finally, he turns to the boy. “You smell like shit. We’re stopping by the sento first to clean you up.”

Levi had never experienced a bath house before, so he mimics what Kenny does. He can’t help but stare at the tattoos making a quarter-length sleeve up his arms, leading to a giant dragon on his back.

”How did you get those?”

Kenny smirks. “I earned them.”

Day 1: Carriage

Levi remembers his mother’s stories. Tales of knights and ladies, the hero winning the day and the damsel in distress. Gleaming castles, shining carriages, tall castles. Of good winning over evil.

His mother is now gone, and those stories are fading - as dim and dirty as the Neo Tokyo streets. Levi had once wanted to be the hero of those stories, but life in this city has taught him there are no heroes, or good versus evil - just those trying to survive. 

There are no heroes in Neo Tokyo. Only the strong and the weak.

And Levi was the strongest.

Day 13: Abundance

The first time Levi saw Detective Erwin Smith, he knew he hated him.

The way he walked into Kenny’s office, without even a regard for Levi’s presence, as if he belonged there. He sat across from his uncle, refusing the tea offered him.

“Your businesses haven’t been raided because of me. Don’t forget that,” Erwin said.

”And you get promoted because of the information I give you,” Kenny countered. “That could all go away.”

This over abundance of confidence (or was it pride?) grated on Levi’s nerves.

Because Levi knew, despite Kenny’s threats, that Erwin held the real power here.
