The order had come from above...or more specifically, directly from him, himself. An order was an order, after all. Augustus couldn’t manipulate his way into a refusal; especially not a mission that could tip the scales so heavily. There was charm that rang with the idea of holding the power of Minister of Magic, but Augustus had always preferred the shadows of puppeteer than having his face plastered as commander. However, the deed was done. His name had been entered, and his suspected had he attempted to divert that outcome, Augustus Rookwood would have still appeared on the ballot. After all, his current position within the ministry allowed him contact with a range political opinions. According to his self-presentation, he was a man for all. A stance etched effortlessly in the goals and plans as an Unspeakable which benefited the entirety of the Wizarding World. It’d be apart of his campaign. A Minister who knows the coming and goings of all of the Wizarding Worlds darkest, most unanswered dealings. He was on the front lines of the battle in understanding every aspect of their world. A man who worked to achieve an end, not just a politician who read reports on events far outside their area of understanding.
What Augustus hadn’t expected was the name of one particular opponent placed next to his on the ballot. Their were suspicions, educated assumptions that Lord Voldemort would pressure more candidates to enter this race; but Lucinda Talkalot had quite entered his mind before the reveal. It was clear she was another perfect choice to climb her way up the ranks. The executed Minister’s second hand. “Luce.” Augustus leaned against the antique wooden desk, center piece of the room they had been gathered in. “I didn’t know you had a personal interest in the political relationship of our world?” A tease in its most primal form; unless her motives for joining the election had been of self-interest instead of an order. Though he had an inkling suspicion it was the latter. “The position would suit you.”
