Day 20 - Michigan Star-gazing Map

Day 9: A story
Footsteps echo through the empty halls
A silent warrior recovering from his past brawls
A survivor still not ruined by the trace
The symbol of his old disgrace
A secret still to be unlocked
The memory of which is all but blocked
Silence falls as he nears the door
The welcome mat dampening the roar
A click as the door swings open at last
Waiting for the bait to be cast
A trap he sees will end his guilt
By destroying this legacy he built
A figure hovers ever near
Grinning with unnerving cheer
The skeletal figure moving closer
Last seen working at the grocer
The place where this story all began
When he first saw that damn sedan
The gunshots rang out in his ears
While he bought his bottled beers
A drive by shooting, no-one lived
Except he and this man who was revived
He knew that day something was wrong
Little did he know it was a swan song
His hand tightens around his pistol
Clutching tight his mother's crystal
Its now or never, revenge is here
One last cry, a muskateer
Gunshots rang once again
Bringing with them yet more pain
Warmth makes our hero look down
Holes, he sees, have suddenly grown
Within his chest and as it fades to black
He sees he stopped another attack
The skeletal figure has fallen in battle
Fallen to the ground with barely a rattle
An evil man by all accounts
But then again, who really counts?
The blackness fell and legends began
Of the brave and selfless man
The one who died to keep us safe
The man who cast the first strafe
He rests now there, in that place
Ready for his call from grace
To protect his people once again
Bringing with him, his own zen
