Oh god, the 30 Days of Bangel challenge.

I was doing so good, wasn’t missing a day and then I got sick! Missed the last few days. I’m honestly so annoyed lol I’m more or less recovered, just got this annoying cough I can’t get rid of.

I might post a master post of sorts answering the reminder of the questions if anyone’s interested.

Day 30: Why do you think the Buffy/Angel relationship became iconic in pop culture?

@mrsgordo84, you really timed this perfectly, didn’t you? The last Bangel day is on your birthday! I’ll try to make this answer extra special for you. 

In my opinion, iconic ships create iconic shows, and iconic shows create iconic ships. BtVS is iconic, and Buffy/Angel and BtVS feed off each other’s popularity. 

I think iconic things usually have two components: on one hand, they are cliched and play into timeless stereotypes, which makes them timeless also; and on the other hand, they subvert expectations. 

Buffy and Angel certainly fit into that mold well. 

On the one hand, Buffy and Angel share a forbidden love (the most timeless and iconic of loves); Buffy is a human, and Angel is a good vampire; they’re meant to kill each other, yet fall in love and beat the odds; their story has intrigue, drama,  romance; they have enemies working against them; they fall in love against their will and stay fallen; they cheat death to be together; they have a lot of chemistry, and look beautiful together; it’s a “high school” romance; etc. 

On the other hand, Buffy and Angel aren’t what you’d expect them to be. Buffy rescues Angel more times than he rescues her; Buffy is physically stronger than Angel; Buffy chooses the world over Angel; Buffy doesn’t end up with Angel, etc.

Buffy and Angel subtly subvert gender roles, surprise us with the direction their story takes, challenge the idea that a love story must end with the couple living HEA, because Buffy and Angel are never over, yet they will never be together. 

So... what I think makes Buffy and Angel iconic? Simple: Boy and Girl are taught to hate each other. Boy and Girl love each other regardless, and say Fuck You Universe. Boy and Girl can’t be together, yet Boy and Girl, again, say Fuck You Universe, and love each other forever anyway...

Bah, this is it. The end of the 30 days of Bangel! (Which also signifies that my summer is coming to a close...). A big thanks to @mrsgordo84 and @gracenm for putting this together for us! It’s been fun! See you next year, hopefully!

30 Days of Bangel...I can't believe it's the last daaayy...SOBS!..

Day 30 - Why do you think Buffy/Angel relationship became iconic in pop culture..

While forbidden love stories were not something new, Bangel's story is a part Buffy the Vampire Slayer show which was in essence the first of its kind back in the 90s so it was seen as revolutionary therefore cementing its status as a pop icon..so by association,Bangel became iconic too..apart from that,for me, Bangel were the first mainstream poster couple for angsty, unfulfilled love since Romeo and Juliet..They were also the first popular supernatural couple on TV so as Joss said,you can't argue with the first..it's the most important..when other shows have similar storylines,you can't help but think of Bangel..

But I also think Bangel's story is so very beautiful..I believe the love, partnership and respect Buffy and Angel have cannot be replicated..they are a couple who you know are meant to be together but it's not their time yet..

It also helps that David and Sarah had insane chemistry and were believers of Bangel..they don't just act,they become the characters, making the love of Buffy and Angel that much more real to a viewer..as much as Buffy and Angel long for each other, you pine and long with them..most of us become emotionally invested in their story and they became a ship that you will always root for...you will always want to follow just to see the day where they will get their happy ever after hence the 'iconic' status..

I can't believe Days of Bangel is over!!!!!..oh well...it was fun while it lasted..Bangel-love forever and alwaysss~~~..always keep the faith...

Day 29: Do you relate more to Buffy or Angel?

I think most will say Buffy, but everyone here already knows that my answer is ANGEL. I relate to him more than I relate to anyone ever (fictional or real). I love him deeply. Honestly, AtS is one of my favorite things on this planet. Angel is like a friend almost. He helps me love parts of myself that I hate but like in him, he’s inspiring, and thinks and feels like I do. Angel’s quotes come to my mind when I’m feeling low, expressing what I’m feeling and can’t put into words. 

Angel is... idk... a literal life-saver to me.

Day 29 - Do you relate more to Buffy or Angel?

Buffy I guess cause I'm closer to her age and while she was growing up,so was I therefore,the problems she faced were very relatable to me..honestly, growing up watching Buffy have contributed in shaping my character and values quite a fair bit..

The only few things I can relate to Angel is his love for food, his occasional but apparently good cooking skills and the utter dislike(sort of) of Spike's annoying existence..

Day 28 - Fave Bangel headcannon

Angel finally becomes human with no repercussions,gets married to Buffy just like he's always dreamed of and they work for the telephone company, volunteer for the red cross and have little 'vampires'..

With his newfound humanity,Angel LOVES fooood..specifically eating food off Buffy(teehehehe)..He loves to cook too and prepares most of their meals..Buffy sometimes play chef and although he is clearly the better cook of the two,he loves seeing his wife cooking and would happily eat whatever she makes even if it's under or over-cooked..

When they sleep,they both love to snuggle or cuddle..They alternate between Buffy on Angel's chest with him wrapping his arms around her and Angel lying on her chest with her arms around his broad,sexy shoulders and his nose/lips nuzzling her neck..

Learning from previous experience of turning human, Angel takes up some form of martial arts and trains/workout his mortal body so he can still continue to fight the forces of darkness alongside Buffy..

And of course...the two of them have one common interest; sex..specifically sex with each other...They have loads and loads of it...initially to make up for lost time but eventually,they keep a pretty active sex life exploring the slightly kinky side like:

phone sex - they wld call each other at work and whisper the naughty things they wanna do to each other when they get home

car sex - they have date nights where they will end up at some quiet road and make sweet luuurve in the Plymouth GTX

pretty wild sex - not sure if this is the right word but this is raw,sexual hunger with handcuffs and dirty talk

roleplay - they love dressing up and role-playing for sex.His favourite:her naughty nurse or her sexy schoolgirl outfit..Her favourite: him in a boxers and apron or just an apron only and maybe sexy FBI agent?

Angel becomes a bit of a horndog and super playful. He will pinch or smack Buffy's butt while she's doing laundry,the dishes or just walking past him..Sometimes he cups and grabs her boobs..he finds her so sexy and irresistible so can you blame the man?..Buffy complains and rolls her eyes with her husband's frequent fondling,calling him a pervert but in reality,she loves the attention from him...

This question is FUN!!!...I can go on forever!!...hahahah...

Day 28: Favorite Bangel headcanon?

Frankly, I’m not one for headcanons. But there’s one small headcanon that is less of a headcanon and more knowing Angel. 

I imagine that Angel keeps mementos from his relationship with Buffy, like, the ring, the notebook that said “Buffy&Angel 4 Ever!”, random stuff of Buffy’s that was left behind at Angel’s apartment or mansion, etc. Someone as old as Angel, and who values his relationships as Angel does, would keep a few things over the years. It makes sense that Angel wouldn’t leave Buffy completely behind. I mean, we know he has a pic of her!

I think Angel took something of Buffy’s with him to his final battle, or that during his last day (in NFA), he looked at something of Buffy’s, or that reminded him of Buffy. I also bet that Angel thought of her before the fighting started. He probably thought of all his loved ones, his enemies, his life, his mission...
