Staff Writing Tips
Take a look at the pieces of writing that you most like to read, and ask yourself what it is about it that you like - then try to incorporate that into your own writing! The same is true for the reverse - write what you, as the reader, wish that you could find to read.
Meet Megan Mackowiak!
Megan is a junior at North Central College, studying Secondary Education & English. This is her first semester on the publicity team for 30N & is looking forward to working with such a creative, inspiring group of people. In her free time, Meg is usually obsessing over her dog, Max or cuddled up reading a good book.
Meet Zoe Ellis!
Zoe Ellis is a sophomore at North Central College, majoring in Writing with a minor in Graphic Design. She plans to keep writing after college and do freelance graphic design work on the side. She has previously been in a literary festival where she got first place on a short fiction story she wrote, and went to a state competition for journalism. She likes to write a variety of different genres, and her favorite type of genre is fantasy.
Meet Sara Johansen!
Sara Johansen is a junior at North Central College, working toward earning her BA in Writing. She currently works in the Social Services Department at a nursing home, but hopes to switch gears after graduation and become and editor. Sara enjoys quilting and reading and can usually be found playing/cuddling with her dogs.
Meet Courtney Kurhayez!
Courtney Kurhayez is a senior majoring in Organizational Communication and Interactive Media Studies: Convergent and minoring in English Studies and Speech Communication. (But to be honest, most of her classes are in Public Relations.) She is the Publicity team leader for 30N, as well as the Assistant Director for Cardinal PR. She also sings and plays drums in her band, Double Identity, and runs a young and new adult book blog, Buried in a Bookshelf.
Meet Jules Billings!
Jules Billings is a first year at North Central College! She is majoring in Writing with a minor in both French and History. She is this spring’s Layout and Design team leader as well as a proud member of the North Central Women’s Cross-country and Track teams. Outside of school, Jules enjoys reading, writing, having adventures, and cuddling with her cat, Patsy!
Meet Sophia Hiatt!
Sophia Hiatt is a first year, double majoring in Music Composition and Shimer: Humanities, and minoring in Religious Studies. She is the Website team leader for 30N, as well as the Vice President and Social Chair for Cardinal Chorus. Sophia hopes to one day work as a songwriter and activist. In her free time, Sophia loves making crafts, and is currently working on starting a blog on religious and social issues.
Meet Arden Kurhayez!
Arden Kurhayez is a senior at North Central College, focusing her studies on Organizational Communication, English, Interactive Media, and Public Relations. Aside from being a co-editor for 30N, she’s involved with North Central’s first-gen program and is the Social Media Account Manager at Cardinal PR. Outside of North Central, she plays guitar, sings, and writes songs in Double Identity
