Incidental Exercise
What is incidental exercise?
Incidental exercise is any activity that gets you moving all throughout the day. Incidental exercise makes up the majority of our daily movement and plays an important role in preventing and reducing the risk of a number of health conditions.
More and more these opportunities to get moving in our daily lives’ are being viewed as an inconvenience and we take steps to eliminate them. Whether it be by parking as close as possible to work or the shops to save walking, or having printers on desks at work to save getting up and going to the printer.
We want to challenge this view of incidental exercise as an inconvenience an flip it. Being capable of regular movement throughout the day is a huge privilege, and also, really beneficial to our overall health. Try and think of every time you get up and move as an opportunity to improve your health! Don’t shy away from taking two trips to carry the groceries inside, from having to walk an extra block to work, or from forgetting something 3 aisles back in the supermarket and having to walk back and get it. These are all excellent ways to increase your incidental exercise on a daily basis.
Try and think of ways you can increase the amount of movement you get throughout the day.
