Chill of the Past
Winters heard the water trickling. . but counting the minutes in her head, she realized how long it had been since he had disappeared, and went to look for him.
Through the steam, even, she could smell the saltwater of his tears. It hurt something in her, made her chest ache. So she reached for him with thin, white fingers.
She lay a hand on his damp shoulder at first, and then her cheek across his back.
"Sssshhhhh… " she shushed, and began to hum an old lullaby, Little Child, that their people had sung out from the desert sands.
"din din wo kume tufá? toku umeruna ina inameru numa laya anemeru in sassá … “
Were he not absorbed in the waking nightmares of his past, Khan would have struck out. He would have demolished the intrusion, destroyed it, them, in every way he knew. Out of anger, fear, or guilt would remain a mystery.
Instead, he remained shivering uncontrollably with his face concealed by trembling arms and knees. Even the scalding water couldn't ward away the ghastly chill easing through his frame.
The song, the touch, the comfort, wove their way into Khan's memories. They pushed out the agony of the past to make way for softer comforts. Instead of loss, remembrance. Without full awareness of what he was doing, Khan untangled a broad hand and turned to wrap it around the woman behind him. He needed her there. He needed to be sure that she was real and not one more hallucination sent to torment him.

Send me a ‡‡ if you like how I portray my muse.
Aww, thanks. <3
I try the best I can to put some real personality into Selina. The way I see it, she has the mindset of a Dalek (basically, anything that isn’t their way is wrong and must be eliminated), but she can have a secret heart of gold that only a few can get to. Mainly her crew and especially her lover, Nekhil.
