How much the people that love you most just want you to be happy.

How much the people that care about you are willing to do to make sure you understand they love you and they will be there for you.

It’s just… there’s something so moving about being so honest with someone and having them not flinch, but try to understand instead.

Good teachers who listen instead of judging and who do their best to listen and help students instead of ignoring them.

Good teachers who try their best, no matter how underpaid they are.

Good teachers who think they're just going their job, but in reality are doing so much more.

They're so silly, and some of them are absolutely terrible, but it's absolutely impossible to hear a pun and not laugh at it.

They're great! They're genuinely funny, in a terrible way, and they can't be weaponised.

I just really like puns.

The look on someone’s face when they start telling you about something they’re interested in, especially when they realise that you’re not going to cut them off or tell them to be quiet, so they start talking rapidly and they’re just happy and relaxed and so excited, even if you have no idea what any of it means

The smell of books.

New books that have just been purchased from the shop.

Books that have been ordered online and arrive, with this different smell that I cannot describe.

Books from charity and second hand shops, which smell unique and like somebody else owned them and placed a piece of them within it.

Books from your own shelf, that still smell like the air freshner you sprayed months ago, or the bag they got thrown in, or the place they were last seen.

Just the smell of books.

Looking through the notes on my phone.

I never delete any of them. Ever. Unless there’s sensitive or confidential information that has been changed and is no longer needed, but could potentially be risky, I keep them.

Like, every single one of them. 

It’s like holding on to a piece of the past. And it’s funny to see how I went from making a shopping list I didn’t stick to, to something so poetic, I can’t quite believe it’s mine.

Fanfic writers. Or writers just generally.

But specifically writers that said: you know what?

Screw what other people think of this character. Screw what other people want from me. I'm going to write what I want to write. I'm going to write something indulgent and for me.

Because it's a difficult thing to do. But those stories are the best.
