No! not at all!

life got in the way for various reasons unfortunately, but i've been working on it and refining my ideas in the meanwhile.

currently, i have the next chapter complete (8k words), the one after that is nearly complete (7k+ words), and the third installment of Alberto's visit to Genova is still in the process of being written (my estimations are that this chapter might be somewhere along 12k+ but i always underestimate so who knows)

im being careful with these next 3 chapters since they were originally meant to be just 1 chapter, but a few ideas hit me that i just couldnt ignore and here we are. i want to have all 3 mostly done and prepared to post just to keep the flow consistent between all 3. theyre heavy ones, and discuss quite a few topics i want to be careful with (also some crumbs for later events *wink wonk*)

apologies that its taken so long, but rest assured 3bebbs is my baby and i would never abandon it <33

Chapter 13 preview:

What subjects would he paint?

His family? For sure.

Luca? Definitely. With those beautiful scales and eyes that shone like stars, he would be a fool to not think of him.

What would Luca think of these paintings? All of these sculptures?

Would he understand the story being told?

The golden halos, the swords, the angelic figures that spiraled around in Tintoretto’s Paradise.

Would he have ever heard of heaven?

Chapter 11 preview:

“Aw, ‘Berto,” Luca cooed as he leaned against the boat, his elbow propped up on the trim as he made Alberto’s life a living hell in one fell swoop. Why was he so damn cute? And how did his name sound so good coming from him? “You scared of a few fish ghosts?”

Alberto huffed, leaning against Luca dramatically— enough that he managed to get the boy to struggle as he laughed under his weight. “Maybe I am scared, what of it?” he said. “Do you know how many fish ghosts I’ve accumulated as a fisherman? I’m probably being followed by enough of them to make an ocean.”

Chapter 2:

It was the burning in Alberto’s lungs that wrenched him from the unusual calm he felt. Then the sharp, sudden pain that shot up his leg as it had been pinned by the anchor. He tried to lift it off himself, but the pain and the ache in his chest from the lack of oxygen kept him from doing anything for himself. Alberto struggled as much as he could, but his vision became blurry and prickled at the edges fast, the effort to hold his breath becoming too much to exhort the amount of force he needed.

His entire life flashed before his stinging eyes, and the shame that ate up his heart upon seeing the same anchor he had bought with his father becoming the object of his demise filled him with unspeakable regret.

 

Alberto would die here. And for what?

Chapter 12 preview:

“What if,” Alberto started, grabbing his thermos from his lunch pail. “I shared some of this?” Luca peered up then, eyes watching him curiously.

“What is it?”

“It’s something I know, you’ll like,” Alberto said. “Remember chocolate?”

At that, Luca perked up. He very obviously did, if the excited smile plastered across his face was anything to go by.

“Well this is called hot chocolate, and it’s very tasty and very warm. But I only share it with people who share their blankets.”

Chapter 10 preview:

“Ah, that’s probably just Bruno talking,” Alberto said, chuckling when Luca cocked his head to the side.

 

“I don’t know a ‘Bruno’,” Luca said.

“Oh, everyone has a Bruno,” Alberto told him. “It’s that little voice in your head that tells you you’re not good enough. Don’t do this, or don’t do that. But he’s a liar.”

Luca blinked, eyes boring into Alberto’s as he drummed his fingers along the boat’s edge.

 

“Do you have one?”

 

“Sometimes.”
