I have three main characters in a piece. Two guys and a girl. One of the guys watched the other guy fall to his death through a scope- I very subtle hint both men are in a relationship, but I never quite confirm it. So: 1. Im killing a main character 2. I have a controversial relationship 3. Idk when to reveal it (pre or post death) 4. I am saddened that I feel I must kill this character, but I feel it helps Is this right???
First and foremost, let me ask you - would you be doing more than just "hinting" at their relationship if they were a straight couple? This isn't an attack against you, it's a serious question - because if the answer is "yes" you need to seriously rethink why you're so worried about putting these guys in the closet.
I mean, I know that of course there may be other reasons you're only hinting at their relationship. If that's the case, I still feel it's a bit of a cop-out if you only reveal their relationship after one of them has kicked the bucket. (Anyway, letting us know they're in a relationship prior to one dying gives us more of a reason to care when he goes, right?)
