"It's a hornet's nest down here!", the sarge yelled into the comlink inside his helmet. "We need immediate evac! Now!"
The first time, some five years prior, as a private on his first mission, Sgt. Jacobs saw the horrifying horde of insectoid aliens, streaming out, literally from holes in the ground of this very same God forsaken planet. That moment had aged him, and the stress of preparing through the intervening years for a return had taken it's toll all the more. That day, he had managed to hide himself inside an exhaust duct of the derelict outpost, a forward gunnery station that had been the last remaining structure from humanity's last attempt to colonize and overtake this tiny but treacherous world. From that vantage point he watched them, in horror.
Once again, he was sent there. Once again he went, the dutiful soldier. Once again, he watched as his men were routed.
