Workshop 4: Character in Situ
Project Collaboration with: Vanessa Andrade (Tumblr: vanmdx) Programs used 🎥 : ZBRUSH & Autodesk Maya (render)
This 1 week project was just wonderful. A bit stressful but amazing in my opinion. We were given 2 references, a character and a piece of environment, to work with. These references were really generic, at least for the environment.. mine was literally a weird looking degraded rock you can find in your garden outside but somehow i kind of saw a thing that seemed to be a fossil in the rock (call it a super sleepy and tired mirage) so i thought about developing this ultra rocky but with a touch of carved beauty. To match Vanessa concept, which looked religious, i sketched a fallen church or temple environment. Truth is! Both character and environment matched so perfectly!!!!!! We are so proud of our result honestly!!! Personally this project helped me a lot. Going back to ZBrush and create this whole environment was not easy task. I blocked the environment in Maya first and then moved to ZBrush to do the details. I never got so tired of modeling rocks in my life hahaha. But it was great! As I learned how to use different brushes and how to switch correctly from one to the other to create this rock effect. The leaves were after created in Maya as well and duplicated a hundred times haha. Also I started realizing how much modeling and sketching environments fits with my personality. Even though this project was a bit hard as in having only 1 week to make it, I think I wouldn’t come up with any better results if I had more time and I wouldn’t have gotten so passionate about it.
