28 31 for the writing asks
I’m sorry I have no idea how old this is but I’m doing it finally!
28. Do not show an early draft to anyone
Frankly I think this is trash advice. I have a small group of trusted friends with a solid understanding of grammar, composition, and story structuring who I share literally everything I write with. They give me incredibly helpful feedback and are often the only reason I continue to write certain projects.
31. Read your story aloud
I do this all. The. Time. With voices for each character. It helps a lot to externalize how characters speak, both mannerisms and accent. When you can pin those characteristics of speech down really well, especially for main characters, writing dialogue becomes a breeze. It’s so much easier to decide how to write dialogue that sounds distinct to each character, and you get to play around with stylization.
