Driver runs from 3-vehicle rollover crash in Wake Forest, officials say
WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WNCN) — A driver fled the scene of a rollover crash that involved nine people in Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon.
The three-vehicle crash was reported around 3:45 p.m. in the 1800 block of Wait Avenue, which is NC Highway 98.
In photos from the scene, a Dodge passenger car sustained heavy roof damage after it flipped.
The driver of the Dodge, who was the only occupant of the car, ran away from the scene, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
Five people were in another vehicle involved in the crash and three people were in a third vehicle, according to officials.
Ben Rice lives a couple blocks from where the crash happened and witnessed it on his way home from work.
Rice says he’s noticed many drivers speeding along NC 98 and he thinks there needs to be a heavier police presence in the area.
“The way the road is, there’s a lot of traffic in short spurts and it’ll stay quiet for a little while,” Rice said.
Rice is hoping police are able to catch the man who ran away.
“The fact that he could get away didn’t surprise me, but the fact that he did is fairly upsetting,” Rice said.
There was no word on injuries or charges related to the crash.
NC Highway 98 was closed for a while but has since reopened.
