How to explain this...

Effectively, reality "misplaced" him. In doing so, he was broken up into so many tiny pieces and scattered all across the planes my kind and others inhabit.

They, being the powers that be, are working on putting him back together, as he should be as dictated by reality. It's simply the order of things. No tricks.

Oh, but he likely won't be fine. Imagine your very soul getting shattered across the pavement, then being swept up and fused back together. It's not exactly a pleasant experience. But there won't be any interference from anything or anyone.

All you all have to do is wait, and prepare to catch him as soon as he falls back into your arms.

is it possible that you would be able to get here, do you think? though, the logistics of how one would hug a ghost depends a lot on what exact sort you are, but.

i do think that if you are able to get here, then that would be an upside of this situation for you - hugs with a friend (multiple friends?) that otherwise might not be able to meet for a while.
