It's not that we don't want to forgive. At least, that's my opinion. I think more often we tend to feel justified in our state of unforgiveness. Someone wronged us or won't treat us the way we imagine we should be treated. Our punishment to them comes in the form of closing up. Ignoring. Exiling them to a place where they can't hurt us again. Isn't that easy? To just stop speaking to them altogether but make certain to keep a few simple smiles in our back pockets to pull out when absolutely necessary - just in case we can't avoid them forever? But it's also easy to be stuck here for so long that it truly feels like just a moment. Until one day we look back and see how much time we've lost. Just how much we miss genuine smiles and not feeling the weight of bitterness upon our chests. Yes, that burden becomes so heavy that it's all we can do to step forward each day without losing our balance from the strain. I could talk about this subject for hours because it's the most recent, flashing-red-light sin I've had to deal with. And it's not over yet. While my heart is clean, there are words that still need to be spoken. Explanations to be laid out. Closure that needs to be had so that prayers are no longer hindered. There's no fluffy imagery in my text today. No thought provoking concepts or anything to misconstrue because it's all quite simple. If we want to be forgiven, WE must forgive first. So ask yourself today: Do I need to forgive or seek forgiveness from someone else? It's not as hard as you think it will be. But then again, with Christ...most things never are. #morningmeditations #40ditw #relinquish #forgiveness #thissideofgrace #mark11 #speaklife #seekforgiveness #giveforgiveness
An awesome sermon by Rick Warren explaining how the Bible is historically and scientifically accurate. Whether you believe in God or not, it's pretty amazing to see how far ahead the Bible was compared to scientific knowledge throughout history. I already knew things like God forbidding Jews to eat Pork due to it being a carrier of trichinosis (not discovered until the 1800s), and commanding boys be circumcised specifically on the eighth day after they're born (Gen 17:12), though not until 1935 was it discovered that it's the eighth day after birth that Vitamin K and prothrombin levels are at their peak in males, two factors needed for blood clotting and to greatly reduce the chance of hemorrhaging (Apologetics Press)
Anyway, he doesn't mention the above, but he does talk about other pretty interesting examples of the Bible referring to the earth being round, blood being the source of life, the stars being infinite, etc and how historically all these things at one point or another were widely accepted as being untrue and then later discovered to be true. It's just really interesting and gives you something to think about.
