You wake up in the middle of the night as-per-usual from night terrors, and Leo comforts you
When you surface from the dream, it feels like you’re drowning. It always does, the way you have to fight to take a breath, the way you have to push away the terror like water and reach for calm. It’s hard to catch your breath, and you take in a shuddering gasp, trying to be quiet in the darkened room.
He hears you, though. He always does. In fact, he’s ready, and Taekwoon already has your hands, grounding you with his warm palms wrapped around your cold, clammy ones. “Hey,” he murmurs, as you fight to stay grounded and remember that you’re in the real world, “Hey. I’m here. Take a breath, love.”
You take a breath, and it gets a little easier. The weight on your chest lessens, slightly. And Taekwoon, with the ease of long practice and a concerned expression, slowly and carefully pulls you into his embrace, tucking you into his chest. You focus on his heartbeat, the slow cadence of his breaths, and try and match yours to his. Your mind is becoming clearer, though the lingering fear remains.
“Breathe,” Taekwoon reminds you, and rubs circles into your back. “You’re here, you’re safe.” He keeps it up, a quiet murmur of reassurances, and you eventually relax entirely into his arms.
“Thank you,” you say, when you’re finally on the verge of going back to sleep. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
It’s a bit slurred with sleep, but Taekwoon gets what you’re trying to say.
“You’ll never have to find out,” he promises, and you drift off to sleep.
