This is how we celebrated 44 years of HipHop last night at the @tarmac.be studios...played a strictly vinyl set, little tribute to the @djpremier classics in this video. I've been playing for 10 years with Serato now and I gotta say DJ'ing was much more difficult back in the days...last night I realised how easy things are nowadays with the cue-points, edited intros, and most of all the relative mode in which the needles can't skip. On this day in 1973 a then 18 yr old DJ named Kool Herc threw a back to school bash in the Boogie Down Bronx, and instead of playing the songs in full, he only played "the breaks". His hype man, Coke La Rock, hyped up the crowd during this part, and with that Hip Hop was born. Among genres of music Hip Hop is a baby, but its impact and influences (jazz, blues, soul) are wider than anyone could have ever dreamed.
