Friday, February 7 was a good day to turn 46, and climb 46. My goal when I embarked on my 46 quest was to complete on my 46th birthday. I am happy to report I was successful.
Joined by Brian (Deegs) and Drew we left he ADK Loj trailhead at 10:00. The Indian Pass trail was packed but still plenty of rocks poking through the light snow cover. We made great time up to the junction. The recent snows helped, and the trail had been tracked out by randomscooter that morning, plus one other group after the recent storm.
Temps were dropping and the skies remained clear. A quick run over to Nye for #45 and then only one remained. The trail over to Street was pleasant for so many reasons; the stillness of the breeze, the narrow spruce trail walls, the steady rise of the path, the contemplative strides carrying me closer to #46.
And then, it was there. It took me a moment to find the Street sign, lofty in its perch above the trail. I had a few moments alone (and a primal scream) before Deegs and Drew joined me for the celebratory scotch and gummie bears. 46 complete. 46 years. 46 x 46. Success.
The trek out was one of my most enjoyable times on the trail. The long late winter shadows were trailing behind us as we floated through the fresh powder. The next chapter always promises to be more exciting and fulfilling. Out across Heart Lake for the final steps and the best views of the day. Bliss.
There is still the winter list to complete (Street is 27W) and many more peaks I'd love to return to in different seasons. The end is always just a beginning.
