Hey, all! Brief check-in at this year's TCFF, where I've already seen a decent film, an awful film, and tons of $2 popcorn! Seriously, now having spent a year in Chicago, I've forgotten how inexpensive things can be. The popcorn is good, I swear.
I skipped out on the opening night film this year, which was Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine." I was informed that the actor who was present for the Q&A kindly discussed how hard it is to work with Woody Allen. I'm happy I didn't go.
I met with some friends at the beautiful Open Space, where the festival shows a free film every evening after sunset along Lake Michigan. The volunteers informed the audience that this screening of "Across the Universe" would be the first film to be shown outdoors in 4K. As the Siskel is concluding their month long screening of films in 4K, I'm curious. What does everyone think? Has anyone been able to see a film in 4K?
It is so digital. Far from film. But, I have grown accustom to digital. It is not film. Color is vibrant, but there is not as much breadth and depth to those colors as with film. I will say that "Across The Universe" was incredibly clear. However, and I'm not sure if this was because the screening was outdoors, or because it was shown in 4K, but certain colors bled on the screen absurdly. Purples and browns, specifically, looked awful.
What are your thoughts on 4K?
