Is this what people think of Singapore ? Strict ? Harsh ? Disciplined? Is it good ? Is that the type of branding we want to project ? I was watching an episode of “Comedians in Cars getting Coffee” where Jerry Seinfeld has coffee with different comedians (in this particular episode it was Ricky Gervais) when Seinfeld said that Singapore gives 50 lashes for people who spit gum on the floor. Whilst we work so hard in positioning ourselves to be Global this and a Global That. We seriously need to do something about the immediate reactions people have to the word Singapore. Though I find their banter light hearted, it’s time for a genuine and urgent Change in terms of what people think of us. Here is a list of things I would like people to associate us with : 1. Highly Creative people 2. Fun loving atmosphere 3. Phenomenal inter cultural respect 4. Brilliant infrastructure that enables everyone to achieve their highest potential 5. World class leaders 6. The gateway to Asia 7. Easy to work with 8. Open minded and progressive society 9. Caring communities 10.
