5sos to Bishop
I used a chess reference because apparently the boys are getting ready to hit checkmate on the fandom again by releasing something musical next week.
I've seen a lot of people talking about the symbols, and I think they represent the boys. Two of them remind me of a tattoo on Michael and one on Ashton. I haven't quite figured out the other two yet because I haven't had a chance to really look at them.
I'm excited for possible unreleased music, though!
*I posted this gif because you can clearly see Michael's tat*
About The Fandoms
Oh boy, I’m about to make a lot of people annoyed. Don’t care, though!
Being part of both ARMY and the 5sos fandoms, I have seen and met some amazing people. Like, really amazing people. Both fandoms in general have some really supportive, nice-mannered folks in them who simply want to see their group do well. BTS’ ARMY in particular have done incredible charity work, and I’ve seen some hints of this in 5sos’s fanbase as well.
Then...there’s the other part of the fandoms. Sigh.
In Korea, there’s a word for them...sasaengs.
Some of the 5sos fanbase may not know this word, but trust me, they are amongst you. These are the fans who, simply put, go too far. They are the ones who stalk them, find their home addresses and sit out in front of them, and try to break into their homes or sneak into their hotel rooms. They are the ones who reject a singer or Idol and return their tickets if the person gets a significant other. They are the ones who *constantly* blast the guys’ social media with extremely inappropriate posts ranging from overtly sexual to threats of violence (to the singer or themselves) if they are not noticed.
As another Tumblr post I saw said, it’s not cute. AT ALL.
It’s rude. It’s disrespectful. It’s selfish. It is the complete opposite of how a respectful fan should act. Saddest of all, it gives the fandom in general a bad name.
When you’re declaring your love to a group, wearing their merch, talking to non-fans about them, you are essentially representing that group. Whether we want to admit it or not, the behavior of the fanbase can have a direct impact on the band. Besides the obvious aspect of privacy, an unruly fanbase can lead to limited venue or sponsorship opportunities. Who wants to host fans who are known for destroying places (my two fandoms don’t, but still), or violating safety measures and privacy requests?
Please remember that our boys (BTS and 5sos) are all human, too. They are not perfect; they have insecurities and fears as well. Stalking them is not helping. Reducing them to sexual objects isn’t helping, either. Yes, enjoy their music and performances. Yes, admire the fact that they are all quite gorgeous.
But remember that they are human, and all humans deserve to feel safe and have privacy.
*Steps off of soapbox*
