Personal wig project! Decided to make a viscose version of Frei's Black+Violet mix, which now gives me a chance for...
Viscose vs. Ramie wig comparison!
Having worked with both types of fibers, I'd like to share some differences I've observed between the two. Viscose and ramie are both plant-based synthetic fibers, but they are not interchangeable!
• Ramie usually yields longer fibers than viscose
• While both are soft, ramie has a coarser feel than viscose
• Ramie is more stiff and doesn't "flow" quite as well as viscose
With these in mind, I suggest the following:
• For small dolls (MSD and below) use viscose to better flow with smaller faces
• For larger dolls (SD and up) use ramie if you want a longer hair length
• For a natural wavy look, use viscose
• For a straight hairstyle, use ramie
• If you plan on using hair products (like hairspray, styling wax, etc.) to shape and sculpt your wig, use ramie
There's a few more differences between the two, but I feel the ones mentioned above are enough to help you make an informed decision when you are choosing which fiber to use for your wig project. Good luck and happy wigmaking~! 😄
