NARUTO Chapter 609 REVIEW
"THE END"
I think the REAL title of this chapter should be "FINALLY"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so excited!!!!! Dear lord it's ABOUT TIME. At last, the JUUBOCALYPSE is upon us!!
Let's back up though and see how this most momentous moment finally came to fruition!
So this chapter starts up seconds after last week's and it appears Kakashi's declaration is just as unconvincing to Obito as it is to us.
In response, Kakashi drops to his knees panting as Guy, in not much better shape, mutters his assent through a stream of blood as his HIRUTORA continues to blast Madara back.
Obito seems to contemplate his former classmates' conviction as Bee himself remarks on their tenacity despite being beaten to hell, when suddenly something interrupts his train of thought...
It appears the HIRUTORA packed enough punch to knock Madara into regeneration mode, thus weakening his hold on MOKUTON - So mad props to Guy!!
As Bee breaks free from the branches Guy is thrown off but quickly caught by Bee who warns Naruto that Madara's ability over the wood element is on par to Hashirama's.
Refocusing on Naruto, Obito's shoulder begins to shift as he recognizes Kakashi's proficiency with the sharingan.
Taking the offensive Obito rushes Naruto and Kakashi as the MOKUTON from his arm springs out to entangle itself with Naruto inhibiting his movements. Kakashi is too weak to even react as Obito reaches for him but Naruto jumps forward in his determination to protect his sensei delivering OBITO HEAD BUTT #2!!
Couldn't Obito technically suck Naruto into his dimension first then go after Kakashi? :|
Whatever his reasons for not doing the logical, Obito pays the price as he is thrown back a considerable ways where he quickly finds his feet.
And that's not the only thing beginning to recover...
Bee takes note of the stress fractures appearing on the Uchiha Barrier and informs Naruto that he's leaving Obito to him to deal with the Juubi (though Bee wasn't really doing anything against Obito in the first place...)
We are shown Obito and the fresh bruising appearing on his forehead from Naruto's attack and he looks somewhat dazed, only snapping to focus when Naruto begins to laugh.
With only a little effort Naruto snaps himself free from Obito's branches, scattering them like kindling.
DEM FIGHTIN' WORDS!!
With moment's consideration Obito continues his advance towards Kakashi.
Naruto finally seems to understand that he needs to do something for Kakashi who is completely and utterly tapped out from using the sharingan and fighting just to remain conscious.
With a bored expression on his face, Kurama asks Naruto to let him control his body without explaining what for. Naruto hesitates at first but agrees demonstrating the amazing amount of trust that has grown between the two!
I think most figured Kurama was giving Kakashi an energy boost here, but in an effort to distract the viewer and confuse the meaning Kishi has Kurama toss Kakashi like a rag doll at Obito, much to the latter's surprise.
But Obito is quick to seize on the situation and reaches out to absorb Kakashi into his special dimension.
Am I the only one who likes the way Obito's head cocks to the side after absorbing something?... Heh heh...
Hahaha I love when Naruto (or anyone) makes that face. xD And it's great seeing Kurama and Naruto interact like this because it adds some good comic relief and reinforces their budding friendship and comradery.
After absorbing Kakashi, Obito continues sprinting forward with his attention now on Naruto. With little time to react Naruto forms a energy hand which he punches at Obito which makes a pretty sweet panel.
Obito naturally phases through the attack, but once again his faith in this technique becomes his downfall as it did during the exchange that cost him his mask.
Now revitalized, Kakashi begins using Obito as the most awkward punching bag ever. I don't really understand why he's just punching him though - HELLO Kakashi, RAIKIRI? But I suppose it's too soon in the plot for Obito to sustain any terrible damage so Kishi keeps it to basic body shots.
Kakashi is back in his groove now and follows up his smack talk with a punch to the face. Obito moves away from the energy fist and Naruto is plainly confused how Obito is suddenly receiving damage.
Oh Foxy you're just full of surprises aren't you! Kurama goes on to confirm that yes, he gave Kakashi chakra when he grabbed his hand so now Kakashi has the energy to move back and forth between dimension. And no sooner is that mentioned when Kakashi reappears seeming to have a good handle now on transporting himself with KAMUI.
But this victory is short lived as the cracks in the Uchiha Barrier spread rapidly and pieces begin to break off.
In an effort to prevent the Juubi's awakening while Kakashi and Naruto fought Obito, Bee and Naruto's clone began combining their power to create a super massive BIJUU BOMB.
And boy, it looks like a doozy!
Charging it "to the max" they throw it at the Uchiha Barrier protecting the Juubi with massively destructive results.
YIKES.
As the dust settles Naruto comments that he no longer senses the Juubi's chakra, igniting a flurry of celebration...
Obito is quite at first in response to their excitement, but then agrees that yes, it is the end...
OH SHIT.
Madara makes his appearance finally as he calmly surveys the glory that is the result of all his long years of planning. LIKE A BOSS.
OMG....It's so beautiful.....
Actually, no - Juubi's as ugly as shit. I'm just so pumped it's ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!!! And I LOVE Madara's attitude towards Naruto and gang's attempts to monkey-wrench his plan. He's just like... BITCH PLEASE.
I got to say Obito is starting to look real tired, not physically even though he did get knock around in this chapter; He seems more emotionally beat down, like when you're only hours away from the end of a show you've spent your whole life preparing and rehearsing for. He looks ready to get the Moon's Eye Plan done, curl up in a ball and have a good cry finally.
Overall, this chapter was REALLY GOOD! It had great pacing - no scenes felt rushed; It had action, both man-to-man and tailed beast-to-tailed beast; It even had some comedy provided by Naruto and Kurama. Every character got a chance to appear and speak (though there can ALWAYS be more Madara) so I say is this one of the most balanced chapters, storytelling wise, that Kishimoto has done in awhile! And I haven't been this excited since Obito's mask fell off and Madara was revealed in the 6th coffin!!
So how about it - is the world going to go into Infinite Tsukiyomi?? If we're being honest, at the end of the day Naruto will win (this is his manga after all) so it is a questions of if, and if so... for how long?? I really want to see the actual genjutsu in action since it's been hyped like a mofo. I'll personlly feel screwed otherwise - and NO - the Road to Ninja movie is NOT an acceptable alternative. Haven't even been able to see the damn thing yet...
Regardless, if the world's about to end there are some characters that must SURELY be close to making an appearance, aka PEDOchimaru and SAUSE-KAY-KOON. I can see Kishi leaving us with the excitement of Juubi to return to this dynamic duo and whatever it is Oro is going to reveal to Naruto's primadonna co-star. I get the feeling whatever it is, aside from blowing our minds (here's to hoping), it will serve to tie up the loose ends left in our minds about Rin's death. I STILL think Madara had a hand in it in some way and I'd be curious to know if Oro did as well (why not?) I'd also like to think he and Madara had contact with each other (as suggested by Kabuto's statement to Madara: "I'm HIS assistant," and the fact Oro possessed Zetsu cells). But I guess we'll wait and see... as usual. Dx
