#derekhynd is a rare and eccentric surfer, and one of my all-time favorite characters. Always up before sunlight, ready and determined not to miss the optimal tide or shifting sandbank, and make the most of the day’s conditions. Doesn’t drink and has never tried drugs... actually can’t fathom why anyone would given the pure highs on offer at the beach for free. You’d think losing an eye during competition in the ‘80’s could have slowed him down, but no chance... he’s charging harder at 60 and overcoming real life challenges now with the same stoke as his first surfs provided.
