WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS for ‘Person Of Interest’.
6741 may just be the most well-written episode of not just ‘Person Of Interest’ but of any science fiction TV show episode ever. There’s not a single indication the entire episode is a virtual simulation other than the title - which refers to them having run that same virtual simulation in Shaw’s brain 6741 times and counting.
It’s just the fact,… if that’s how real it was for the audience, how real was it for Shaw undergoing it?
Nothing in the episode was real except the ending which revealed that Shaw was still strapped to a bed being psychologically tortured to work for Samaritan.
Not even the sex scene between Root and Shaw was.
And you could say “Oh? Well, that’s a cop out then.”
But no, not really because it’s still Shaw’s fantasy. It’s still the place her mind goes whilst she’s being tortured.
So even though it didn’t actually happen, - that’s still validating WLW. That’s still amazing representation because it’s effectively conveying Shaw’s desires.
So I don’t think it’s a cop out at all. In fact I think it’s better than if they really did have a sexual encounter.
I think it’s brilliant. It’s truly one of the greatest episodes of TV art/entertainment I’ve ever seen.
I love it when TV show creators can catch me out like that. It proves to me that they really care about it.
I know it’s a pretty old show now but seriously…
I need to see more TV art/entertainment like that!
Because that was bloody fantastic writing and acting!
