かつては55歳が定年であり、しかしおそらく我々のような氷河期世代は70とか下手すりゃ75くらいまでは働かないと考えると、残り労働時間という視点から見ると、今の40才はかつての25才くらいの地点でしかないのではないか……。

I'm only here to devalue pink asks and crash the economy

Quick update just over in my Flickr page. A few pics from today and last month back in Scotland.
Few more from today coming here later.
can I ask what model microscope it is? there are a handful of open source efforts with pretty comprehensive device support that might be worth checking out just to have something of a backup plan (if they do support it, that is)
it's two different microscopes. the secondary problem we run into is that our ITS is extremely strict about open source materials. we have the open source stuff that can work, but our ITS won't let us use it. the guy i mentioned, he's very good at reviving those computers and that software, and where he can't, he can find a source. man's a wizard. the olympus scope, we're not in danger of losing the data, but olympus themselves says that they don't support the FV300 system anymore. if we lose that computer, we lose the FV300 system. i haven't yet seen a good open source alternative for it, just because of how tightly olympus holds onto their software ip. computer wizard's got a workaround, but it is a workaround that really angers ITS.
the other scope, if you have a full open source tillphotonics tillvision software, i'd love it. i know of this one: https://docs.openmicroscopy.org/bio-formats/6.9.0/formats/tillphotonics-tillvision.html but I also know that it's not complete for what we need out of it. that's the only thing we don't have a workaround. i know that this same group has some of the olympus scopes/file types covered, but they don't have the FV300, their oldest is the FV1000.
