NO  ONE  at  the  base  really  works  with  set  hours  &  shedules.  hard  to  have  normalcy  with  an  international,  twenty-four  hour  call-time,  but  they  try  to  make  do.  enforce  structure  wherever  they  can,  disregard  it  with  ease  when  it  is  necessary.  no  one  quite  prescribes  to  this  subjective  order  more  than  reyes  does.  

(  *  the  discovery  of  the  internal  spreadsheet  trying  to  wrap  its  head  around  his  waking  &  sleeping  hours  was  an  amusing  one.  he  keeps  his  knowledge  of  it  a  secret.  they  seem to  be  having  fun  with  it              it’s  good  that  they  are.  )

He was not to be trusted- or so he’d been told, a warning given from his comrades, stating that those within Overwatch could be hiding among them. Agents hidden in plain sight, ready to disrupt their plans, if given the chance. How he’d been warned by Akande- Doctor O'Deorain- that if he were to be captured again, surely there would be no chance of ever escaping again. It was that fear that left him cautious, ready to kill at any given moment, if it meant keeping his freedom. 

It’s why he didn’t hesitate to attack the man in his perch, catching sight of him watching from a distance, up on a rooftop as he watched like a hawk. He was quick to catch on, and even quicker to put an end to it. Rising with ease into the sky, no doubt taking the man off guard as he focused in on the man, raising him into the air, only to throw the soldier to the ground before he had chance to react. Trapped, like a fly in a spider’s web. Amused, and feeling a bit generous- he’d give the man chance to explain himself, before jumping to conclusions that he was the enemy they’d warned him about.

“You and I are a lot alike, are we not? Two sides to the same coin? pawns in the same game of chess- yet on opposite sides of the board. Though I can’t help but wonder- who, or what is it you’re fighting for exactly?” He held no signs of being associated with anyone, the longer he looked him over, which left him curious.  “A rouge rebel- willing to give his life for whom? Surely there must be reason to your madness? No man ever gives his life without some deeper meaning. explain yourself.”

      THERE   ARE   PLENTY   OF   MEMORIES   THAT   MAKES   THE   OTHER   LOOK   SO   OBVIOUS .          the   76   plastered   on   his   back   in   bright   red   almost   makes   the   wraith  cackle ;          soldier:   76 .          what   kind   of   call-sign   is   it   when   there’s   someone   to   recognise   it   immediately ,     to   know   exactly   who   it   is   under   that  crimson   visor ??          the   best   answer   reaper   gives   himself   is   that   jack   never   expected   the   dead   to   come   back   and   haunt   him   from   the   grave .          (   AFTER   ALL ,     DEAD   MEN   TELL   NO   TALES .   )          how   could   jack   have   known   when   the   switzerland   headquarters   laid   in   ruin   and   both   men   had   disappeared ,     leaving   no   body   behind ??          they   barely   saw   each   other   before   the   ceiling   collapsed   on   them .

      HE   HAD   KNOWN   JACK   LIVED ,     OF   COURSE .          it   isn’t   hard   to   tell   that   the   once   blond-haired   farm   boy   had   taken   his   old   sep   designation   and   made   it   into   a   new   identity ,     leaving   behind   a   trail   of   sightings   and   stolen   tech .          who   else   would   know   the   significance   of   a   number ??          the   sep   remains   a   closely   guarded   secret ,     never   to   be   revealed   to   the   public .          (   classified   and   forever   a   mystery ;          the   government   would   never   admit   to   contributing   to   a   MONSTER   if   they   had   known .   )

      AND   NOW   HE   WAITS   IN   THE   SHADOWS ,     SHOTGUNS   AT   THE   READY ,     CLAWS   GRIPPING   TIGHT .          hollow   hazel   behind   the   mask   stare   intently   at   the  soldier ,     studying   each   move ;          reading   the   other’s   language .          teeth   grit   against   each   other ,     near   biting   his   tongue   as   he   forces   himself   to   wait   for   the   ideal   moment   to   strike ,     to   reveal   himself ,     to   expose   his   position .          he   wonders   what   jack   would   do .          he’s   slower   than   he   used   to   be   but   that   doesn’t   make   him   less   capable   of   a   counterattack ,     should   he   react  correctly ;          reaper   lowers   himself   closer   to   the   ground   and   to   the   shadows ,     wisps   of   nanites   disconnecting   and   reconnecting   to   his   body   in   a   constant   myriad   of   shadow   against   shadow .          he’s   anxious   for   a   fight .          he   knows   his   plan ,     but   it   hinges   on   whether   the   soldier   has   noticed   his   presence   or   not .

𝐇𝐄  𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐒𝐓  𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐃  𝐓𝐇𝐄  𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐅𝐓  AN  HOUR  AGO .  A  rattling  gasp  and  panicked  fumble  he  had  missed  during  the  late  hours  .  He  twists  like  he’s  in  agony  ---  a  PHANTOM  PAIN  at  the  very  pith  .  HE  CAN  SEE  HIS  FACE  ,  TWISTED  AND  SPLIT  BY  IT -  bleeding  with  panic  and  something  he  couldn’t  quite  describe  .  The  diagnosis  is  a  nightmare  .  It  must  be  --  his  heart  is  racing  and  he  drowns  in  an  ocean  that  does  not  exist  .  HE  CRAWLS  DOWN  FROM  HIS  BUNK  ,  quick  and  intent  --  soundless  yet  clumsily  in  one  big  contradiction  .  Kneeling  on  the  uneven  mattress  and  seeking  him  out  with  newfound  grip  .  

“  MORRISON  .  HEY  ---  HEY  ...  I’ve  got  you .  ”  It’s  dark  and  yet  he  sees  him  -  crystalline  clear  -  can  see  the  sweat  and  the  way  his  eyes  struggle  to  adjust  to  the  reality  .  Gabriel  ,  leant  over  him  with  hovering  hands  --  stuck  on  pause  .  His  breaths  are  quiet  and  they’re  quick  ,  judging  the  way  Jack  awakens  with  the  cold  chill  of  panic  still  clinging  to  pale  flesh  like  dewdrop  .  TREMBLING  .  He  doesn’t  have  to  touch  him  to  feel  them  .  He  can  feel  it  in  the  springs  .  SHAKING  beneath  his  knees  where  the  bed  gives  under  their  combined  weight  .  He  sighs  --  stuck  between  relieved  and  anxious  himself  .  The  panic  almost  contagious  until  Jack  touches  him  .  HIS  SKIN  IS  UNWILLINGLY  SET  ABLAZE  .  His  body  digests  it  as  momentary  intrusion ---  full  of  gooseflesh  .  It  subsides  ,  as  smooth  as  the  tide  .  

“  Jesus  Jack  ,  you  alright  ?  It’s  okay  --  you  were  sleeping  .  ”

between the brightness of the screen & his tart grimace , it wouldn’t be long until a helpless recruit incur his unfortunate wrath . a solitude of sea , not even the holiest of gifts , couldn’t appease his vast rage . she laid her hand on his shoulder and squeezed . “  frown more and wrinkles will appear , JACK .  ”
