annie was surprised when marina slipped away as soon as they all boarded the train to the capitol. she wanted so badly to follow, to ask if everything was alright and if there was anything she could do. but, between the young victor doing her best to manage her own anxieties about returning to the capitol and wanting to focus on their tributes, annie knew that now was not the time. annie took a few deep breaths and saw misty heading off on her own towards the back of the train.
finnick looked like he was sitting down to speak with kai and annie couldn’t see lincoln near at the moment, so she gave misty a few minutes to herself and headed to the back of the train herself. the view was gorgeous, of course, the capitol providing large, open windows to remind them of what exactly they were leaving behind. and why.
“misty, right?” annie asked as she took a seat next to the younger girl. “i like to sit at the back of the train too, it makes four look almost like a picture.” there was a balance that she knew she wanted to find; between knowing the tributes and preparing them for what was to come as best she could while allowing them to approach each stage how they thought best.
