I just want to say with all these ai fic detections and allegations swirling around, one thing i love love love about your writing is that nobody could ever say it's ai. i can't even tell you how many times i've read something of yours and thought omg girl how do you even think of that lol your writing style is SO human i love it

side note, do you have any advice for fic writers getting into it? creatively and/or the practical stuff. i have these big ideas for fics and i do nothing with them but you've inspired me to try. my writings not even good but i just think at least it's not ai🙏

I posted some general writing advice here a while ago but first of all want to address the point about your writing not being good - practise!!! god if you could only see the shit I was writing when I first started. and I am constantly learning! the great fun thing about writing is there are so many ways to do things wrong you could hyperfixate on it for all eternity but a lot of the time readers don't care that much. especially in fic, concept I think wins more than execution a lot of the time.

for fic advice specifically:

the stakes could not be lower. fic should be FUN! you are publishing this out of the goodness of your heart for free and it's just a bonus if people read and enjoy. obviously yes you should have a general idea of pace and structure but a lot can be forgiven imo

you can experiment - short fiction and minimal plot are usually rewarded with fic, meaning you can get to a level of interiority not usually accepted in general fiction where your readers aren't already intimately familiar with the characters

start with short pieces and work up to multi-chapters - ao3 is littered with unfinished WIPs, don't commit unless you know you can finish just for the sake of your own mental pressure

passion shows through more than skill half the time. do I abandon fics because of the writing style? sometimes, but if the concept is REALLY nice and juicy it doesn't matter to me. if you are burning to tell a story it usually shows and will string people along

also if you're just starting out do try to find betas - I don't use any these days but I used to and it's really important to try to get feedback on what's working/what's not especially when starting out. this another place where I can see AI slipping in as it's easier to ask the sycophantic robot for feedback than a human but try to find a real person who wants to do it! there are so many avid fic readers here who i'm sure would love to get early access to fics

end of the day writing should be fun! it is also a hobby that can at times be very lonely and very self-critical but sharing words is so joyful to me, I hope you can find an outlet it in too :)
